Selective hearing.. or speaking..

My nephew is nearly three and hardly speaks. My bro and sister in law have been trying to get him to talk and he sees a lil speech therapist to help him learn to talk a bit more. He will start pre-school early to help him out a bit.

He’s probably a bit delayed but the funny part of the whole matter is that he is probably just plain darn stubborn and independent more than he is delayed.

Not surprising when you look at the gene pool he has come from and all the ridiculously stubborn parents, grandparents, and aunties (ahem) he may have.

One of the reasons for seeing his delay as stubbornness is because he CAN speak when he really wants to. Note three of his five favourite and most used words. My sister in law was telling me tonight and had to spell them to me on the phone so he didn’t go into tantrum mode to demand them. Absolutely no problem learning these words and quickly and using them frequently.

C-O-O-K-I-E

P-I-Z-Z-A

I-C-E-C-R-E-A-M

Too bad his mom is a bit of an organic health nut. And the rest of the family is not too far off that one. He learnt these quickly but might have to learn the word O-R-A-N-G-E or B-A-N-A-N-A instead a bit more. 🙂
